Overview
This course provides online, face-to-face and practical learning opportunities.
Wound management and understanding factors influencing the ability to heal are essential for effective practice as a hand therapist. You must be able to design and adjust your treatment practices, employing the biopsychosocial model to the individual situation before you, to ensure patient-centred care and best practice.
The Wound Management Course comprises four modules and will be structured as follows.
Module 1
An online module composed of five 30-minute video presentations regarding the science of wound healing presented by Jan Rice.
Overview continued
Module 2
A face-to-face workshop at the Sydney Hospital. This one-day workshop is presented by Kay Maddison (Hand Clinical Nurse Consultant) and the Hand Therapy team, including Jade Wong, Sarah Walsh and Elaine Leahy.
The workshop will provide you with the hand therapy nuance to wound care, in-depth knowledge of dressing the wounded hand. It will assess practical competence in aseptic technique and suture/clip removal during its practical assessment.
Modules 3 and 4
A face-to-face workshop to be held in Sydney following module 2. This module covers oedema and scar management, presented by Bekk Christensen and Angela Thynne. This workshop will involve a practical assessment of competence in oedema bandaging.
Refer to the presenter information below.
