SA Interest Group News - December

It has been a fantastic year in South Australia, we have seen many new faces and also had a continuation of regular members attend throughout the year. Overall meeting numbers have increased in 2019 to an average of 19 in-person attendees per meeting. Zoom attendance has grown significantly; There have been some learnings along the way with zoom and we are grateful with people’s patience whilst we have fine-tuned the system throughout the year.

All up South Australia has held 4 meetings to date: 2 from prominent local surgeons and the other 2 from specialists in their fields. Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel September’s planned meeting and we thank members for their understanding about this.

The most recent meeting in late September was presented by Professor Greg Bain entitled: ‘The Wrist. A New Perspective on Anatomy, Imaging and Reconstruction’. The presentation reviewed new concepts on clinical anatomy and how it applied to carpal instability. It was a reminder of the complexity of the wrist and a fantastic opportunity to view unique 3D imaging of the wrist.

The South Australian Hand Surgery Society’s annual meeting took place in late September. There was good therapy representation at the meeting however no therapists presented this year; perhaps something that our members can work towards in 2020!

Congratulations to Andi Tao for becoming an Accredited Hand Therapist with the AHTA, the first to upgrade in our state under the new membership requirements. Andi will be taking on the State Coordinator role along with Charlotte Nash in 2020 and Kaveeta Deut will be stepping down from her coordination role in the New Year.

We will be having a SA AHTA Christmas catch up, stay tuned for details to follow. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year
