Imaging Course
Overview
Designed specifically for health professionals, this course is a collaboration between the Australian Hand Therapy Association and the University of Sydney, Faculty of Medicine and Health.
The course format includes self-paced learning – access to engaging content through the CANVAS learning management system (LMS) and live webinars – participating in three interactive sessions with expert presenters from the University of Sydney.
Modules
CPD
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Hours:
- Earn a micro-credential for 50 CPD hours upon successful completion of assessments.
- Claim 36 CPD hours for participation without assessment.
Prerequisites
Participants must be qualified allied health or medical practitioners, with a minimum of two years' experience.
This course has been developed for hand therapy practitioners. However, it applies to the whole human body.

Summative
- MCQ (30-50%)
- SAQ of Case Studies (35-60%)
- Discussion Boards (10-15%).
Dates
The course consists of 3 live webinar sessions (each of 90 minutes) conducted over 2-3 months. Participants explore and learn through self-paced learning provided on the universities learning management system (LMS) Canvas 2.

Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes are:

Understand and describe the strengths and limitations of different imaging modalities in the assessment of hand pathology, trauma, and healing.

Identify different types of tissue and upper limb structures in the coronal, sagittal and transverse planes. (anatomy from different angles)

Assess pathology, trauma, and healing in upper limb imaging studies.

Use knowledge of imaging and imaging reports to inform diagnosis and treatment.

Discuss imaging with patients and other health professionals.

Content
AHT
This course is an elective for those completing their Accredited Hand Therapist credential. Applicants must complete and pass the assessments.

The University of Sydney delivers this course in partnership with the AHTA. For this reason, the AHTA can not apply the member discount that is typically provided.

Presenters
Victoria Baumann
Victoria Baumann is a registered diagnostic sonographer and radiographer. After 30 years of experience in the public and private health sectors, she owns Hunter Mobile Ultrasound, which offers sonography services in local GP practices, nursing homes, and home visits. She also occasionally does locum work at Alice Springs Hospital.
Victoria holds a Master of Health Science from the University of Sydney and is a PhD candidate at the same institution.
Sheryl Foster
Sheryl is a specialist MRI radiographer with 30+ years of experience, and, as an academic at The University of Sydney, teaches MRI to postgraduate radiographers. Sheryl also leads a specialised team of MRI radiographers performing human and animal studies at Westmead Hospital.
Sheryl is a past ISMRT Governing Board Treasurer and Education Chair, past-president of the ANZ Chapter of ISMRT, current Treasurer of ISMRT ANC and served three terms on the Medical Radiation Practice Council of NSW.
Peter O'Reilly
With over 35 years of clinical experience in radiography, Peter has significant knowledge of the anatomy and pathologies of extremity imaging from both a radiographic and CT perspective. Peter has been teaching for 7 years in the discipline of Medical Imaging Science.
Through his teaching role, he has been able to merge the conceptual aspects of plain imaging and CT of extremity injury or disease process with significant anecdotal experience which adds an important dimension to his education and the learning experiences of all students.
