Statement Of Purpose
The purpose of the philanthropic grant is to provide funding of up to $4500 per annum to members of the AHTA to assist with financing outreach work in developing countries. This is in partial fulfilment of the AHTAs strategic goal to foster national and international links and also to advocate on behalf of the profession.
The aim of the AHTA outreach program is to make a difference to the lives of people in developing countries by providing hand therapy expertise where it is required. This will usually take the form of teaching in country to build sustainable local capacity.
Outreach activity contributes to the long term growth of the field of hand therapy and strengthens the AHTA through the recognition of voluntary work and the culture of giving and sharing expertise. Grants provide the incentive to build the AHTA database of outreach activity and educational materials which enhances effectiveness and encourages volunteering at home as well as abroad.
